Ben Affleck Believes 'Batman v Superman' will Put Warner Bros. On Top

Can The Dark Knight Deliver?

By Alex Burns

In an interview with Variety new Batman, Ben Affleck has talked about how the upcoming slate of DC Comics movies being developed by Warner Bros. will help the studio turn their recent misfortune around. Check out his related quote below

“You’ll see next year they are going to have a great year,” Affleck told Variety. “They are now developing … probably the single greatest under-exploited IP asset in the entertainment business, the DC comic world. And now they have started to exploit that and you are going to see that blossom. And, when it does, it’s going to be massive.”

While it's no surprise to hear an actor back the studio that's paying him millions of dollars to play Batman it's intriguing to hear Affleck's appraisal of the DC Comic world as "under-exploited". Warner Bros. have only really delved succesfully into the mine of Batman comic book history to establish it as one of the biggest movie franchises of all time and after the enormous success of The Dark Knight trilogy ended in 2012 the focus for the studio then became establishing a connected superhero world on-film similar to the that of the Marvel universe. Batman and Superman were the only two heroes to have received numerous film adaptations in the last 40 years but now Warner's are keen to bring more DC Heroes to the big screen and do so in a manner that's less like the Ryan Reynold's 'Green Lantern' misstep in 2011 and more akin to the Iron Man and Captain America movies.

Whatever happens we're more than happy to see more superhero movies on the big screen and it doesn't look like the genre bubble is going to burst anytime soon. Warner Bros. will be counting on the returns from the DC movies to make up for a year which featured the dreadful "Jupiter Ascending" box-office flop and fantastic but similarly low grossing "Man from U.N.C.L.E". With the Harry Potter franchise done and dusted and no Batman movie until next year the wait may be a little penny pinching for the big time studio.

We'll see if 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' can live up to the hype when the film hits cinemas worldwide on March 25th 2016.
