NBC Cancels "Constantine", But Can the Show Continue Elsewhere?
Executive Producer Urges for Fans Support
By Alex Burns
It's official, NBC's DC Comics adaptation "Constantine" is cancelled. The show completely stopped production last Autumn and after a series of torrid rumours and speculation, NBC has finally cut the cord. While this is obviously disappointing for fans of the show, there is a silver lining. Daniel Cerone, who served as executive producer, has taken to Twitter to urge fans that Constantine is not dead and only needs a new home to continue with more supernatural adventures. The original 13 episode-run featured Matt Ryan as the chain-smoking, dabbler of the dark arts, who was first introduced by Alan Moore in "Saga of The Swamp Thing". The character proved popular enough to star in his own series "Hellblazer". Constantine hit TV screens at a time when several other comic book properties were making their bows on the small screen, "The Flash", "Gotham", "iZombie" and others all managed to prove a hit with viewers whereas Constantine fell short.
The best way you can support Constantine is to spread the word, hit up social media outlets and lobby as best you're able to demonstrate to Networks that there is an audience for this type of programme. We're sad to see the series end before it managed to really hit it's stride, Matt Ryan in particular impressed in the lead-role. The dark nature of the comic may translate better with another company backing it, would a format similar to Netflix or Amazon suit the show better? It's certainly worked with "Daredevil" and that series' more dark, adult tone.We know there's plenty of room for more comic book adaptations, Constantine just needs the right backing.
