New Thor: Ragnarok Plot Details

EW have a great feature on Thor: Ragnarok in their latest issue. The outlet also has a clear erbreakdown of the premise of the mightiest Avengers' latest adventure. Here are the key plot points:

• Loki is still impersonating Odin after the events of The Dark World and ruling over Asgard questionably.
• After hearing of the discontent in homeworld, Thor returns to Asgard
• Cate Blanchette's character, Hela, has been released from her imprisonment under Loki's rule as Odin
• Thor and Hela do battle in Asgard which results in Thor being magically transported to Sakaar
• Sakaar is a barbaric planet ruled by the Grandmaster played by Jeff Goldblum
• It is on Sakaar that Thor meets Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) a hard-drinking elite warrior
• Thor is brought to the Grandmaster and tasked to compete in a gladiator style tournament
• Sakaar's most famous combatant is none other than Mark Ruffalo's Incredible Hulk
• Thor is forced to battle in the games and is given a short haircut and is stripped of his trusty hammer
• The film is set to reinvent the Thor franchise and establish a new tone for future movies
• Ragnarok will develop into a "road movie" with Thor and Hulk being a duo on the move

Sounds sweet to us! Don't forget Doctor Strange is also set for an appearance in the film as well. So much awesome! Check out some quotes on the tone of the film and the change in Bruce Banner for this new Marvel movie.

“A lot of what we’re doing with the film is, in a way, kind of dismantling and destroying the old idea and rebuilding it in a new way that’s fresh. Everyone’s got a slightly new take on their characters, so in that way, it feels like [this is] the first Thor.” said director, Taika Waititi

“He’s much more of a character than the green rage machine you’ve seen in the Avengers movies,” Ruffalo said of The Hulk. “He’s got a swagger. He’s like a god.”

In Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk!


Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth once again reprising his role as the God of Thunder himself, Tom Hiddleston is back as the mischievous Loki while Mark Ruffalo appears as the Doctor Bruce Banner aka the Incredible Hulk in an expanded role. Anthony Hopkins returns as Odin, Cate Blanchett joins the cast as new villain Hela alongside Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster and Karl Urban as Skurge.

Thor: Ragnarok is set for release October 27th in the UK and November 3rd in North America.
