C&C Insight: Secrets of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer Revealed!

C&C Insight: Secrets of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer Revealed!

Did you spot any of these?

By Alex Burns

We finally got our first proper look at Warner Bros' highly anticipated Superhero showdown "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" this weekend and if anyone was concerned at all about the film then this trailer may well go a long way to putting those doubts to rest. After we reassembled our blown minds Cape and Cowl got together to analyse the footage shown and share our thoughts and theories with you all, let's get started then!

The trailer begins with a shot of Metropolis, after the destructive finale of Man of Steel the city looks in good shape. The film has been confirmed as taking place two years later and Superman may have had a helping hand in the rebuild. As this shot pans round we listen to voiceovers from various characters detailing the divided public opinion that Superman has caused. The media and political soundbites are reminiscent of the TV screen panels in Frank Miller's epic "The Dark Knight Returns", that's the first hint of many in this trailer that showcases how much influence Director Zack Snyder has taken from the graphic novel. Also we're pretty sure the "Devils in the sky" line is Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor talking.

Here we get our first look at Henry Cavil returning as Superman, the trailer contains a lot of Messiah imagery and always position the Last Son of Krypton in a superior, worshipped role. Though we can't confirm where this takes place, we can hazard a guess that judging by the face paint on show this could be the Day of the Dead Festival in Mexico, our first hint of Superman's global reach.

Action-shot and superpowers! Now this is what we came to see! Supes is doing some heavy lifting in this sequence and note the Russian Federal Space Agency logo "Roscosmos" on the craft he's holding, again this shows that Kal-El will not be restricted to American soil but may be trying to gain their favour.

Superman lords over a group of soldiers in this shot, so far so consistent with what we've already seen. Forget kneel before Zod, the soldiers kneel to Superman as he drops to ground without a word, they are completely submissive. Also, take a closer look at the badge on each of the soldier's shoulders, you see it? Yeah that's Superman's Chest emblem. It's hard to imagine Kal-El organising an army under his name so these characters could be acting on their own taking inspiration from the Man of Steel.

Another fantastically composed shot, very biblical in scope as again we see Superman tower over the human race. Note the robes the person on the right is wearing, looks to be a man of faith and here he is recognising Superman as his Lord. Whenever we see Superman light seems to be emanating from behind him obviously striking God-like comparisons.

The lights go up and the Superman Statue is revealed. Presumably erected in tribute to Superman for saving the world in the finale of Man of Steel, it seems not everyone is in awe of the Kryptonian. "False God" is scrawled over the statue, up until this point we've just seen people submit to Superman's superiority, this is where things begin to change...

Enter Bruce Wayne, this is our first look at Ben Affleck as the Billionaire playboy, so far so brooding. Obviously this cut from the Superman statue seen before communicates that Mr Wayne probably isn't the biggest fan of Superman. Of course we can hear Jeremy Iron's Alfred doing the voice over here, imposing dialogue about "rage" and "fever" turning once good men cruel, is Bruce Wayne one of these once good men?

The Batsuit, looking fierce, the cowl is already angry, it wants to be worn. Bruce Wayne is reported to be coming out of retirement to confront Supes in the flick, is this sequence him weighing up whether to take on the mantle of the Bat once more?

Here we get a hint of Bruce back in the suit, what's interesting here is the location, is this Gotham? Metropolis? Wherever it is it's showing the gritty world we can expect to see this new Batman working in, no sunny skies here, it's all about being down in the dirt and under the surface. Take a close look at the graffiti on the left hand pillars, note the question mark, we already have Jared Leto turning up as The Joker in Suicide Squad could The Riddler also be making an appearance in the future of DC on film?

With Batman we expect Bat-gadgets, here we see what could possibly be a Bat-Wing type craft spraying doom on all below. What's unusual is the destructive force being used against these criminals, something Batman is not known for, could someone be framing The Dark Knight? Reportedly part of Wayne's retirement condition is that he was using drones to fight crime, could one of these drones have been manipulated to be used for darker purposes?

Here he is, the main man, what do you think? We have never seen a Batman on screen like this before, the costume is lightweight and straight out of the comics, no armoured look that the other film versions have gone for and man can Affleck fill out a Bat-Suit! The guy is enormous! The design of the suit is reminiscent again of Frank Miller's Caped Crusader in "The Dark Knight Returns" but tell me you can't see the physique of Jim Lee's Batman in Jeph Loeb's Graphic Novel "Hush".

The classic shot of The Dark Knight perched high above the city skyline, we can see he's holding a sniper rifle, of course we know Batman doesn't use guns but he has been known to multi-purpose the weapon in the past, expect this sniper to shoot something other than bullets.

Woah! It's Battle suit Batman complete with sinister glowing eyes! Batman squares up to Superman in this shot and we get a great high res look at the armoured Bat-Suit he'll be wearing to battle the Man of Steel. The suit is well worn and has got plenty of dents and scratches, is this half way through the fight or has Batman used this armour in the past?

No need to explain this shot right? These power houses are gonna throw down! We have to say though we've seen Superman tower over every other human being in this trailer, lording over them like a God, not the case with Batman though, he drops to The Dark Knight's level recognising him as an equal. Batman is more than just a man and Superman knows it. Watch the trailer again, you know you want to!

So what did you guys make of the trailer? Did we miss anything? Which Hero do you think will come out on top when the credits roll? There's plenty of time to speculate that's for sure! We'll have everything on Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice as it comes, keep it locked here at Cape and Cowl.
