The Dark Knight - Alternate Scene Storyboard Revealed
A Classic Retold
By Alex Burns
The Dark Knight is, in this humble comic book fan's opinion, the best superhero movie of all time, heck, it's also one of the greatest films ever, period. With this in mind, you can imagine my excitement when I come across a fresh piece of news on director Christopher Nolan's 2008 comic book crime thriller. Let's get to it then, you all remember the iconic scene where Joker breaks into Bruce Wayne's penthouse to kidnap Harvey Dent, right? Some of you are saying no... really, no?! Well, just in case, give yourself a refresher and check out the vid below.
What we have now, courtesy of storyboard artist Stephen Forrest Smith, is an alternate version of the scene where Batman uses his grappling hook to catch up with Rachel Dawes instead of the unrealistic notion of simply "falling faster". I have no massive issue with the original scene, it works and it's awesome but this little glimpse into what could have been is pretty exciting for a bat-fan like me. I especially dig Batman balancing on the edge of the building before leaping off into to the Gotham streets below. Check out the full story boards below.
Pretty cool huh!
The Dark Knight revolutionised the superhero genre back in 2008, proving a hit with critics and securing Heath Ledger a posthumous Academy Award for his portrayl of the Joker. Grossing over $1 billion at the worldwide box office, The Dark Knight continues to endure as a landmark of modern cinema.
