X-Men: Apocalypse Comic-Con Recap - Plus Official Logo and Trailer Description

Apocalypse Finally Arrived at SD Comic-Con 2015

By Alex Burns

We've got a recap of the X-Men: Apocalypse panel from San Diego to share with you all today. The new X-Men movie is shaping up to be quite the movie even following the resurgent interest in the franchise after 'Days of Future Past' was such a success. Director Bryan Singer and several members of the cast including Oscar Isaac and Jennifer Lawrence made an appearance on stage. Hugh Jackman also appeared but he's still unconfirmed for the movie and was there more as thank you to the fans after announcing he will retire from the role of Wolverine. Singer introduced the trailer by confirming the events of the film take place in 1983 and after Mystique's heroics at the end of 'Days of Future Past' the world has sort of accepted mutants, that is until Apocalypse comes along...

The trailer was then shown and we've got a description of the footage to share with you. There are leaked videos of the trailer online but we won't be posting them here.

The trailer begins with a nuclear explosion and then cuts to Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey coming to from a vision, she says that she's seen the end of the world and all this death. Enter James McAvoy as Xavier who assures Jean that it was only a dream. We then get a voice over from Oscar Isaac's Apocalypse about how the world views him as a God. "I’ve been called many things over many lifetimes, Ra, Krishna, Yahwe" We then see Rose Byrne's Moira MacTaggert telling Charles about how when some people find Mutants they worship them as a deity but that she may have located the very first mutant.

There's then a lot of Apocalypse as you'd expect and the super mutant gives an epic speech to the younger mutants claiming that they’ve lost their way by following blind leaders. "Everything you’ve built will fall and from the ashes of the world, we’ll build a better one." Apocalypse is hidden under a hood and meets Michael Fassbender's Magneto who asks him “Who the F are you?”, Apocalypse shows his face and says “Come and See”. Oscar Isaac is in full costume here and his look is straight out of the comics.

Professor X figures out that Apocalypse can control other mutants. There's a scene where the X-Men squaring up against Storm and Ben Hardy's Archangel who are on Apocalypse's side, as Magneto is also on the dark side here and uses his powers to pull a knocked out Xavier in a wheelchair towards him.

There's a bunch of shots showing the rest of the X-Men as well all quickly cut, Nightcrawler, Jubilee and Olivia Munn’s Psylocke appear briefly as does Tye Sheridan's Cyclops. There's also a Quicksilver shot there weren't many powers on show as clearly the film is still in post production and FX is being worked on. The message appears "Prepare for Apocalypse." and then Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique gets all foreboding with dialogue along the lines of a there's storm coming and that’ she’s back to take up the fight.

There's some shots of Prof X in the Cerebro and a sequence where Apocalypse enhances be Charles's powers. ‘I’ve never felt power like this before.’ The trailer finishes with the classic Professor X look, in a wheelchair with a bald head, the first time McAvoy has appeared this way in the franchise.

In the Q&A afterwards, Jennifer Lawrence revealed that we should expect her character to be "more Raven than Mystique," implying that she'll be working with the good guys this time around. Oscar Isaac gave some more details on Apocalypse likening the first mutant to a cult leader, in that one of his biggest powers is persuasion. The trailer heavily implies he convinces several mutants to join his side. Then Michael Fassbender chimed in with possible the coolest bit of info. The beginning of the movie will show a Magneto that is done with being villain and is living in some secluded woodland with a new wife and family, he's even grown a patchy beard!

The official Logo was revealed for the movie which and there was a sweet looking comic-con exclusive poster making the rounds as well, check both out below.

We'll be sure to keep you updated with more on 'X-Men Apocalypse' and will share the trailer when 20th Century Fox decide to release it officially, until then keep it locked right here at Cape and Cowl.
