The Classic Joker Story Comes to Life
By Alex Burns
Following the premier of DC's latest animated film 'Justice League: Gods and Monsters' at San Diego Comic-Con we now have details on comic giant's next project. Warner Bros. Animation and DC entertainment announced their next DC Universe Original Movie will be 'Batman: The Killing Joke'. An adaptation of the classic Joker origin story by uber-talented writer Alan Moore. The graphic novel is renowned for it's take on just how the Joker came to be. The plot deals with a vicious attack on Commission Gordon's sanity by the Clown Prince and Batman's attempts to stop him. It's also notable for the Joker causing Barbara Gordon's paralysis and ending her career as Batgirl.
We can't wait to see this defining story adapted into animation and the thought of seeing Brian Bolland's artwork from the graphic novel come to life is positively awesome! There will also be an original 15-minute prologue to the film that expands on the book which will add something new for longtime fans and give us something else to get pumped about.
The film will be executive produced by Bruce Timm and is set for release 2016, plus with Jared Leto starring as the Joker in 'Suicide Squad' that same year your fix for everyone's favourite psychopath will be well and truly covered. We'll have more as the release approaches so keep it locked here at Cape and Cowl.
