Zack Snyder Talks Batman v Superman Ultimate Cut

Zack Snyder Talks Batman v Superman Ultimate Cut

Plus New Images From the Superhero Showdown

With the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice at the end of this month speculation is rampant as to how the movie will be received. Everything is being put under the microscope, running time, amount of characters, unconfirmed cast roles and more. The most controversial however was the announcement of an R Rated version of the film set for release on Home Video after the theatrical run. Director Zack Snyder has addressed these hot topics in an interview with EW check out his comments below with the first addressing the films running time which clocks in at 151 minutes .

“We were just like, ‘Okay, look. We’re not making a three-hour movie. I mean, even I didn’t want to make a three-hour movie. I drove the cuts probably harder than anyone. The studio, they were willing to let the movie indulge pretty hard. But I felt like it’s at a manageable two-and-a-half hours. Let’s also not forget the credits are super long, the end credits. So the movie’s closer to two hours and 22 minutes.”

I seriously couldn't give a hoot how long the movie ends up but there's been a lot of hate thrown at this perceived "overlong" running time. DC and Warner Bros are telling an epic story right? Where's the hate for The Lord of the Rings films or even the Harry Potter movies for their lengthy run times... The Dark Knight, the absolute pinnacle of the superhero genre, rocked up at 152 minutes and I bet we would all love another 10 minutes in that particular movie world. Look, if you want a 90 minute cinema experience pick a different movie, simple as, it doesn't equate to a better or worse movie, that is all down to story, cinematography, performance and so much more that has absolutely nothing to do with the time on the clock when the credits roll.

Snyder also pitched in on Hunger Games actress Jena Malone and her unconfirmed role in Dawn of Justice that has been cut from the theatrical release.

“I think we should keep it private, but it’s nothing that’s been talked about. She’s definitely not Robin or Batgirl. I’m happy to say that.”

Jena Malone's character will appear in the Ultimate Cut release of the movie on Home Video.

There's been plenty of comments release from the team behind Batman v Superman about the cameos of other DC characters in the film, some are just way too spoilery for me so I'm not posting them here. Snyder did dish on  some particular well-known faces popping up in the Directors cut a tease for the wider DC Universe on film.

“There’s a couple, like, Ahman Green, the running back from the Green Bay Packers, he’s in it. And C.T. Fletcher is like this bodybuilder muscle-guru from Compton, this awesome guy. He’s amazing, and he’s in it. And then there’s just a lot of these Easter Eggs in the Director’s Cut that I think are gonna be fun for everyone….There’s one giant one that I won’t tell you about yet that speaks to what’s gonna go on in the greater Justice League universe.”

Going in to more specific detail on the differences between the two versions, Producer Charles Roven offered some more insight.

“There’s not a lot of blood in our movies. The ratings board also judges their PG-13 and R ratings by what they consider to be a level of intensity and how much that intensity goes throughout the entire movie. There are some pretty intense scenes in Batman v Superman, and if they went on longer and had that same level of intensity, that might cause the ratings board to shift their rating.”

Sounds... intense! We certainly have plenty to think about before the film hits cinema screens across the globe on March 25th. Tickets are on sale now so if you haven't already, get on that. If you can, definitely go for an IMAX showing and for more speculation on then make sure to download our Cape and Cowl Cast on Podbean or iTunes, for free, to get our take on the Ultimate cut of BvS or if you have the time, listen or watch below!
