Robert Kirkman's Invincible Series Coming to the Big Screen

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the long-running and best-selling Invincible comic book will be receiving the big screen treatment. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who recently teamed up on another comic adaptation, AMC's Preacher series, will reunite to write, direct and produce an Invincible film with Universal Pictures. This is the latest adaptation based on an Image Comic series from writer Robert Kirkman, the creator responsible for The Walking Dead and Outcast series', both of which have made the jump to television.
“For nearly a decade I’ve had to endure the ‘what about Invincible?’ question as fans have watched The Walking Dead grow into the multi-media monstrosity it has become over the years,” said Kirkman. “The answer was always that we were waiting for the right team to partner with. That team has arrived! The esteemed misters Goldberg and Rogen have proven themselves to be top-notch directors with a keen collective eye for stunning visuals after slumming it by writing hit after juggernaut hit.”
Kirkman added, “Invincible’s surprising, edgy, shocking, and oftentimes blood-soaked story couldn’t be in more capable hands. With the team of Rogen, Goldberg and Universal, I’m very confident this will be another superhero movie, in a long line of superhero movies that continues to prove that it’s a viable, thrilling genre that will keep people coming to the cinema for years to come.”
“No matter how much damage it causes our bodies, minds, and our most intimate relationships with those we love, we will not rest until Invincible is as great a movie as it deserves to be,” Rogen and Goldberg said.
Originally beginning publication in January 2003, Invincible tells the story of Mark Grayson, the son of Nolan Grayson, who is the world's most powerful superhero, Omni-Man, and Deborah Grayson, his human mother. When Mark turns seven years old, Nolan reveals that he is a member of a race of peaceful alien explorers called Viltrumites, that he had come to Earth to help mankind and that one day Mark would develop super powers. Mark's powers manifest at the age of 17 while he is working at his part-time job and thus the world eagerly welcomes another superhero to defend it. All is not as it appears though and soon Mark is left questioning his heritage and place in the universe
We'll keep you updated on this exciting project, it will certainly be interesting to see how Kirkman's emotional and bloodthirsty superhero comic is adapted to the big screen.
