By Alex Burns

We've got a super short preview of the upcoming animated series 'Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy'  to share with you all. The clip was released by Marvel Entertainment (via IGN)  and shows off the first footage from the anticipated series. Based on the success of the hit 'Guardians' movie the animated show will look to emulate the same sense of fun and adventure. “Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy” follows the newly-formed team who finds a strange artifact keyed only to the DNA of Peter Quill. Upon opening it, Quill unleashes a treasure map leading to a powerful weapon known as the Cosmic Seed which is capable of giving birth to the next universe. It’s up to the Guardians to find, protect and ultimately destroy the Cosmic Seed in order to keep it out of the hands of those who would abuse its power, from galactic big boss Thanos, to the conniving brothers the Collector and the Grandmaster, to a resurrected Ronan, to the ultimate trickster, Loki, in order to save the universe."

'The Shield' Star Michael Chiklis Joins 'Gotham' Season 2 - Batman Prequel Series Adds to Cast

'The Shield' Star Michael Chiklis Joins 'Gotham' Season 2

Batman Prequel Series Adds to Cast

By Alex Burns

After the announcement of Natalie Alyn Lind taking on the role of Silver St Cloud FOX’s “Gotham” have made another casting addition this week with Michael Chiklis joining the Gotham City Police Department as Captain Nathaniel Barnes. Chiklis will be crossing paths with Jim Gordon and the production team on the show have spoken a little about the role.

“[Barnes] lands on the GCPD like a tornado,” 'Gotham’s' producers tell TV Line, “ripping out the dead wood of Gotham’s police force. He is a law and order zealot; unafraid of making enemies – on either side of the law. For Gordon, Barnes is a hero and a mentor, someone with whom he can share the burden of heroism. Captain Barnes proves himself to be a strong ally to Gordon… but one day he will make an equally powerful enemy.”

Chiklis will certainly be suited to the role of a grizzled police veteran having starred in the hugely successful FX series “The Shield”. We gotta mention his time as Ben Grimm in both of Tim Story’s 'Fantastic Four' movies as well. So it looks as though "it's clobberin' time! for Gotham's criminals! Sorry... we just couldn't resist. We'll keep you guys posted on all 'Gotham' updates as season 2 heads into production.

Teddy Sears Joins 'The Flash' Season 2 as Jay Garrick - Shantel VanSanten Cast as New Love Interest

Teddy Sears Joins 'The Flash' Season 2 as Jay Garrick

Shantel VanSanten Cast as New Love Interest

By Alex Burns

The Flash is nearing the start of filming for the second season and the showrunners are keen to explore more of source material by bringing in additional characters from the DC universe. We had confirmation yesterday that Jay Garrick, the original Flash, would be joining the show and now we know who'll be playing him plus casting  news of another comic character as well.

Lets start with Jay Garrick, Teddy Sear (American Horror Story, Masters of Sex) will play the Golden Age speedster. The character description for the TV Show is as follows:

"Jay is a mysterious figure who arrives in Central City to warn Barry Allen and his team at S.T.A.R. Labs of an impending danger that he alone cannot hope to stop."

“The Flash” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said, “Having Jay Garrick come onto the show was one of our earliest ideas. It is so exciting, as we rush into season two, that we finally get to bring the Crimson Comet to life. We couldn’t imagine anyone more suited to play the original Flash than Teddy.”

The other piece of casting news confirms that Shantel VanSanten (“The Messengers,” The Final Destination, “One Tree Hill”) has been set for the role of series regular, Patty Spivot.  Part of more recent comic book history her TV show character description is as follows:

"Patty Spivot is a police officer and science enthusiast who catches the eye of Barry Allen. Patty is obsessed with metahumans and partners with Det. Joe West this season but has no idea that her new crush is The Flash."

“We were huge fans of ‘The Messengers’ and are excited to have Shantel join us to help complicate Barry Allen’s love life in season two,” said Kreisberg.

How do you feel about these casting announcements? Are you excited to see more characters from the wider DC universe appear? It will be cool seeing another speedster join the show in the form of Jay Garrick and it'll be interesting to see how Barry Allen will ever have eyes for different girl after declaring his love for Iris in season 1.

We'll have more as the new season approaches release, for everything superhero keep it locked here at cape and cowl.

Geoff Johns Confirms Jay Garrick will Join 'The Flash' - Golden Age Speedster will Feature in Season 2

Geoff Johns Confirms Jay Garrick will Join 'The Flash'

Golden Age Speedster will Feature in Season 2

By Alex Burns

“The Flash” recently wrapped it's first season and the season finale 'Fast Enough' seriously upped the stakes in terms of the show's willingness to tap into it's DC Comics source material. Amidst all of Barry Allen's time travelling exploits fans were one treated to a series of sneak peaks at what may be in store further down the line for the hit show. One scene in particular really set fan forums ablaze and that was the shot of a silver helmet that landed in particle accelerator chamber. The helmet belongs to Jay Garrick, the Golden Age version of 'The Flash' who operates in an alternate timeline.

At the “DC Entertainment: From Page to Screen” panel, executive producer Geoff Johns confirmed that this sequence from the finale will provide a plot point for the second season.

“That’s not an Easter egg, that’s a story point,” Johns said. “We’re going to see Jay.”

Jay Garrick's comic history is a bit muddled, to begin with he was the primary Flash in the Golden Age of comics but the character was then reinvented when Barry Allen replaced Jayas the Flash in the comics. With Barry now the Flash, Garrick existed as a comic character, providing the inspiration for Allen to adopt "The Flash" persona as his own. As various Crisis' occurred in the DC universe it was revealed the two heroes populated parallel Earths, Earth-1 and Earth-2, the two eventually met and went on to become allies and friends.

The executive producers of “The Flash” have alluded to the DC multiverse appearing in the second season, so with this announcement form Johns there's even more Earth-2 DC characters to be announced. Keep it locked here at Cape and Cowl for more on 'The Flash' and casting news of Jay Garrick, as we learn it.
