Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo director, Shinichiro Watanabe is taking on the world of Blade Runner in a new anime short from Sony Pictures Japan. Titled Blade Runner Black Out 2022, the new feature takes place a few years after the events of first movie and is set during a power outage.

“The work that has influenced me the most in my anime profession would be, of course, Blade Runner,”
Watanabe says in the teaser clip.

The footage shows test animation, concept art, and a few quick clips of animation. Watanabe also details he is paying maximum respect to the original Blade Runner and trying not to create an imitation when working on this new project.
