Lucasfilm Address the Digital Carrie Fisher Internet Speculation

Lucasfilm Address the Digital Carrie Fisher Internet Speculation

An End to the Rumors

By Alex Burns

Lucasfilm have issued a rare statement to squash the insane amount on internet speculation over a potential digital recreation of Carrie Fischer to appear in future Star Wars Films.

We don’t normally respond to fan or press speculation, but there is a rumor circulating that we would like to address. We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance as Princess or General Leia Organa.
Carrie Fisher was, is, and always will be a part of the Lucasfilm family. She was our princess, our general, and more importantly, our friend. We are still hurting from her loss. We cherish her memory and legacy as Princess Leia, and will always strive to honor everything she gave to Star Wars.

Fisher's passing over the holidays last year was incredibly saddening for many people the world over and frankly all articles written about this icon of cinema should really only be to celebrate her life - not to speculate as to whether or not Princess Leia will appear in more Star Wars movies. Well played Lucasfilm - let's end with Mark Hamill's tribute to Carrie Fischer.
"It's never easy to lose such a vital, irreplaceable member of the family, but this is downright heartbreaking. Carrie was one-of-a-kind who belonged to us all—whether she liked it or not," he said. "She was OUR Princess, damn it, & the actress who played her blurred into one gorgeous, fiercely independent & ferociously funny, take-charge woman who took our collective breath away."

"Determined & tough, but with a vulnerability that made you root for her & want her to succeed & be happy. She played such a crucial role in my professional & personal life, & both would have been far emptier without her," he added. "I am grateful for the laughter, the wisdom, the kindness & even the bratty, self-indulgent crap my beloved space-twin gave me through the years. Thanks Carrie. I love you, mh."
Fisher and Hamill can be seen next in "Star Wars: Episode VIII," directed by Rian Johnson, which will reach cinema screens worldwide on December 15, 2017.
