Kevin Feige Talks Up The New Spider-Man and Marvel/Sony Deal
How Will Our Favourite Webhead Fit in with the MCU?
By Alex Burns
With the news that Tom Holland will be playing the new Spider-Man a lot of attention has now turned to how the character will fit in with the rest of Marvel cinematic universe. The new Sony Marvel deal has allowed the opportunity for Spider-Man to join the likes of Iron Man and Captain America on-screen. In a recent interview with SuperheroHype.com Executive producer and MCU mastermind Kevin Feige has spoken out about the recent developments and what cinema goers can expect from the upcoming movie. Feige talked about how the new partnership with Sony is going so far.
“We’re producing that movie for Sony and in partnership with Amy Pascal, so it’s been going through the same process of any other Marvel film would, and it’s been great. Tom Rothman at Sony has been very supportive in the decisions and obviously the two big ones we announced this week.”
After the tepid response to 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' there was a bunch of speculation as to the future of Spidey on screen, the Marvel Sony deal was unexpected but at least it seems to be running smoothly and surely that can only be a good thing. Feige was also asked if his previous work with Tom Hotman on 20th Century Fox's first 'X-Men' movie helped pave that way for the deal to go ahead as Hothman now operates at Sony.
“It was a very different capacity. Marvel Studios as its own studio didn’t exist and I was not a full producer on any of those movies. It was a different relationship, but he was always very supportive of me personally.”
A lot of talk has surrounded how other Spider-Man characters may fit into other MCU films but Feige was very straight in his response to that question.
“Right now, it’s all about producing the new stand-alone Spider-Man movie,”
Sounds about right, get Spider-Man back to his best then worry about the rest. Also if you were wondering what Fiege thinks about the previous movies...
I think Spider-Man 2 is one of the best superhero movies ever, so that’s a lot to live up to.”
Very true Mr Feige, Very true. We're certainly looking forward to seeing how the new marvel movies shape up, especially with Peter Parker now becoming a part of that world. For the rest of the interview check out SuperheroHype.com.
