Wonder Woman Leaps Past $550 Million Worldwide in Huge Third Weekend
The Whole World was Waiting for Her
By Alex Burns
Warner Bros. Pictures scored a sensational win as Wonder Woman soared past $500 million worldwide this past weekend. The Patty Jenkin's directed picture finished in second place for the weekend box office as Disney Pixar's Cars 3 opened domestically to take top spot, but the key for Wonder Woman and it's ongoing box office strength is the minimal drop-off percentages since it's opening weekend.
Wonder Woman took in a sensational $40.7 million, dropping off only 30% and helping it's domestic tally to around $275 million. This is even more impressive when you take into account the stellar company this film now joins, as that third weekend tally is the second largest weekend ever for a WB picture, coming in close behind The Dark Knight ($42.6 million) and clear of The Dark Knight Rises ($35.7 million). Wonder Woman is outpacing fellow DCEU films, Man of Steel and Suicide Squad and is in with a very real chance of besting the domestic gross of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the highest grossing DCEU film so far with $330 million.
Internationally the film continues to perform admirably with $39.5 million from 62 markets, an overseas haul of $297.2 million combines with the impressive domestic gross for a worldwide total of $571.8 million.
