Wonder Woman Destroys The Mummy at the Domestic Box Office

Wonder Woman Destroys The Mummy at the Domestic Box Office

The Highest DCEU Holdover Yet

By Alex Burns

Warner Bros. Pictures scored another win with a strong second weekend for Wonder Woman. The Patty Jenkin's film is already a critical hit and is now really showing off it's appeal with audiences, enjoying a second weekend haul of $57 million at the domestic box office. What makes this even more impressive for the film is the fact that it held off strong competition in the form of Universal's The Mummy starring Tom Cruise. The rebooted monster movie could only muster a poultry $32.2 million in it's opening weekend and will have to rely on international performance to pick up the slack.

Wonder Woman only dropped 45% in the second weekend and this marks the strongest holdover for a DCEU movie so far. Suicide Squad, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Man of Steel all experienced severe drops above 65% and were met with much less favourable reviews than Wonder Woman has garnered.

Wonder Woman also added $58.1 million from 57 international markets for an overall global box office of $435 million and counting, how high can this superhero fly? it will be interesting to find out.
