Ben Affleck Addresses How Batman Will Be Different in Justice League

No Guns, No Killing?

By Alex Burns

Ben Affleck spoke to EW recently about how Batman will change from what audiences saw in last year's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Check out is comments below.

“BvS departed a little bit from the traditional Batman,” Affleck said. “He started out with all this rage directed at Superman, because of his coworkers who had died in the fight Superman had with Zod. He was holding on to a lot of anger, in a little bit of an irrational way. Whereas this is a much more traditional Batman. He’s heroic. He does things in his own way, but he wants to save people, help people.”

“This is more in keeping with the canon of how Batman’s usually been portrayed, and how he’s portrayed vis a vis the Justice League in the comics,” he explained. “This is more the Batman you would find if you opened up your average Batman comic book.”

“Not that it’s average,” Affleck continued. “I think it’s a really cool story. Actually, it’s sort of a story about multilateralism. It’s not a bad theme to have!”

It's fair to say that Ben Affleck's turn as Batman in Dawn of Justice was generally praised in performance but criticised for the character's attitude towards using guns against humans and dealing deadly force in hand-to-hand combat. Judging by these comments, it looks like the Batman that features in Justice League will be closer to the traditional take on the hero that's evolved over 75 plus years of comic history - one that can certainly still beat criminals senseless but would prefer to not shoot them with the Batmobile.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's (Henry Cavill) selfless act, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) enlists newfound ally Diana Prince to face an even greater threat. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to recruit a team to stand against this newly awakened enemy. Despite the formation of an unprecedented league of heroes -- Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash -- it may be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League is set for release November 2017.
