Warner Bros. CEO says DC Films are "edgier" than Marvel's

Warner Bros. CEO discusses the difference between DC and Marvel

So it's all down to Realism?

The “DC vs. Marvel” debate has never been so heated, especially with DC launching their own Superhero team-up film "Justice League" in 2017. Now Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara has weighed in with his take on things.

“The worlds of DC are very different,” Tsujihara said, “They’re steeped in realism, and they’re a little bit edgier than Marvel’s movies.”

Tsujihara also touched on the importance of branding across international markets, Marvel is certainly associated with a certain quality and Warner Bros. believe they also have that with their DC properties. “The big franchises are becoming more and more valuable,” said Tsujihara. “You don’t have to explain to the consumer what a ‘Batman v Superman’ is.”

So is that what it's down to? Realism? It's still early days for this new DC universe on film, we've only got "Man of Steel" to showcase what we can expect from these upcoming films. Tsujihara's quotes here may be a good indication of the direction DC are going in to try and distinguish themselves from Marvel's attributes. Time will tell if audiences respond to these new films in the same way.

DC are hoping these three will be the start of a franchise to rival The Avengers

"Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice" is slated for a March 25th, 2016 release.
