'Assassin's Creed: The Movie' - On-Set Photos and Templar Props on Show

'Assassin's Creed: The Movie' - On-Set Photos and Templar Props on Show

Production Continues with Filming in Malta

By Alex Burns

The ever mysterious 'Assassin's Creed' movie is currently in production and we've got some updates on the project as Head of Content Azaïzia Aymar has revealed some new photographs from the set of the film. The pictures show off some Templar artifacts being kept in display cases, the abstergo logo is present and they tie in nicely with shots of actor Michael Fassbender in costume for the present sections of the movie.

“Those Abstergo guys just love Templars!” Aymar says of the photos before adding a question to get the speculators out of bed “Who is the man on the pommel?” Take a look at the photos below and have a guess yourself.

There's also two shots of the film set in Valletta, Capital of Malta. The images come with some intriguing soundbites from an interview location manager Joseph Formosa Randon had with Location Guide. Production has transformed the city into "15th Century Seville," closing down streets and adding all the suitable time related accoutrements. Randon also details specific locations and what was filmed there "Fort Delimara was for a chase sequence through underground Tunnels and Fort Ricasoli and Fort Manoel provided the back drop to some spectacular set builds."

After Callum Lynch discovers that his ancestor, Aguilar from 15th Century Spain was an Assassin, Callum relives Aguilar's memories to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to confront the Templars—age-old enemies of the Assassins—in the present day.

The film follows the same premise as the videogame series by Ubisoft. Those games chronicled the journey of Desmond Miles who is captured by a secret organisation know as Abstergo, a continuation of the Knights Templar. Using a device known as the Animus, Desmond is repeatedly sent back in time to live through memories of his Assassin ancestors and uncover items of ultimate power before eventually uncovering the truth about the origins of the human race.

MIchael Fassbender leads the cast and Marion Cotillard also stars. Directed by Justin Kurzel 'Assassin's Creed: The Movie' is set release December 21, 2016.
