Spider-man to MCU

It's official! Spider-Man WILL join the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

It's official Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Studios are partnering up and are finally bringing Spider-man into the hugely popular Marvel Cinematic Universe! Sony has not been happy with the recent performance of it's Amazing Spider-Man franchise and have agreed for a brand new rebooted version of Spidey to appear first in an unspecified upcoming Marvel film. Once that's in the bag Sony Pictures will follow up with a stand alone Spider-Man film, on July 28, 2017. It's not solely Sony in charge however as Kevin Feige will co produce with his team at Marvel as well as Amy Pascal, who oversaw the launch of the original Sam Raimi directed feature 13 years ago. This poses a new creative direction for the web slinger and with Andrew Garfield being dropped from the lead role fan speculation will now be uncontrollable as to who will replace him. Logan Lerman and Dylan O'Brien are current early rumoured front runners.

The agreement does advise that Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films, however with Marvel on board fans may have more confidence going forward. In addition Marvel and Sony Pictures are also keen to stress this is a two way street and are exploring opportunities to potentially feature characters from the MCU into future Spider-Man films.

“I am thrilled to team with my friends at Sony Pictures along with Amy Pascal to produce the next Spider-Man movie,” said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. “Amy has been deeply involved in the realisation on film of one of the world’s most beloved characters. Marvel’s involvement will hopefully deliver the creative continuity and authenticity that fans demand from the MCU. I am equally excited for the opportunity to have Spider-Man appear in the MCU, something which both we at Marvel, and fans alike, have been looking forward to for years.”
